Options For Ex-TennCare Insureds

I have recently had several calls from Tennessee health insurance agents who are talking about TennCare and looking for alternatives. For those readers who are unfamiliar with TennCare, it is the state run health insurance program (http://www.state.tn.us/tenncare) for Tennessee citizens who are poor, disabled or uninsured.
Apparently, TennCare is hurting financially due to several factors. As far as I can tell, the benefits for many folks have been quite comprehensive...much better than many average citizens have or can afford. Also, I have heard that a number of the TennCare insureds have abused or taken advantage of the program.
One insurance agent told me that some TennCare insureds were obtaining low cost or free narcotic prescription drugs and were then selling these pills at an enormous price.
According to a recent article by Anita Wadhwani of the newspaper The Tennessean, almost half of the TennCare covered adults will be dropped from the program. That could amount to 323,000 people becoming uninsured.
Governor Phil Bredesen regrets that such cuts must be made, but they appear to be necessary for TennCare to survive financially. His plan can be found at http://www.tennessee.gov/governor/tenncare.htm

As a minor solution for no insurance coverage, we do offer a couple of limited or scheduled benefit insurance plans. While not comprehensive major medical, they do provide some coverage for those who cannot afford comprehensive major medical or for those with health problems.
One plan has no medical questions and the second plan is simplified issue for individuals. However, it is guaranteed issue for groups of 10 or more. It is also good for most associations on a guaranteed issue basis.
